This has been a hot topic recently within the industry. It’s become increasingly obvious the changes that are happening and a lack of diversity again for one reason or another. I’ve been in this industry over 15 years. At the start, with full transparency, I really had to bang down doors and convince people to give me a chance as a bigger sized model at a UK size 16/18. There were only a handful of us working in Europe as plus size models, as the UK were quite slow to adapt to diverse models- the U.S.A was of course leaders of the plus size model movement and fashion inclusivity in many ways.
Over the years with the rise of social media, there was a time that as a blogger, You Tuber or content creator past a UK size 14, you genuinely wouldn’t get a considered to be included for a press day invite of a fashion brand even if you organically spoke about them on a regular basis, and the chances of being invited on a Press Trip as someone over certain size was just a total no go! Thankfully this did change hugely but only in certain areas of fashion, beauty and lifestyle. Even now within the luxury space you’ll rarely see anyone with a curvy frame invited to something “elite” . It’s as if it’s taboo or rather just not considered “ in fashion”.
