If you feel like you might be in need of a wardrobe refresh when it comes to your coats, or perhaps you find that nothing seems to work well with your more classic wardrobe staples, then this post will hopefully give you some ideas.
The statement coat:

Check and plaid styles aren’t for everyone but this specific style works so well if you have a lot of denim in your wardrobe.
I’m wearing the size Large which would fit up to size 20 quite easily.
It’s from River Island in sizes XS-L here.
Grey Peacoat :
Wonderful if you have a lot of classics in your wardrobe - such as tailored trousers, jeans, smart jumpers, and shirts. Perfect to elevate your wardrobe if you just need something that has an added smart edge to it.
River Island: sizes 6-18 here
The Puffer Coat:
Being realistic with our unpredictable European weather. Puffer coats are an essential! If you tend to be a big jeans wearer I’d opt for these shorter cut styles. And the statement leopard gives you all the on designer feels.
Next Sizes XS-XL here.
If you prefer longer length instead try this option here.
The Utility jacket:
These style jackets are always so timeless and work perfectly for layering from Spring into Summer. If you happen to be planning a trip or a weekend away I find something like this to be a brilliant addition as it can be restyled so easily

The Smart Wrap Coat:
Mango is a great place to look for smart, great quality items. Depending where you live you’ll probably get a lot of wear out of this kind of coat all year round. In a workwear sense these style coats are your absolute staple or for merely having that one “good” coat in your wardrobe this is a great place to start.
Sizes XS - 4XL : Here
The Black Waterfall Jacket:
Ideal if you like to layer. This is a style that works perfectly on its own or under coats too. Really versatile and fabulous to dress up basics.
Evans sizes 12-32 here
The Maxi Coat:
A good maxi coat is something I personally love. Ideal for workwear as they work with tonnes of trouser styles and dress lengths. What’s more is that you can easily layer your casual pieces as seen above for that cool girl weekend style - layered hoodie and jeans.
M&S sizes 8-24 here.
The Colourful Trench:
A trench coat is always going to be on an outerwear list- but for something just a little different this sky blue shade is a beauty of a find!
Hobbs sizes 8-22 : here
The Cropped Trench:
Cropped trench coats have had a revival this season. Simply Be have a really great selection at the moment in various styles and colours, but it was this specific one that caught my attention; a beige faux leather find. It’s giving Rosie Huntington- Whitely style - timeless with an edge.
Cropped trench coat from River Island here : sizes 16-32
More cropped trench styles here: sizes 12-32
The Boucle Jacket :
Boucle jackets I find to be surprisingly warm. Ideal for now with a light jacket over it, or in the Spring worn on its own. They are so versatile for workwear and jazzing up every day wardrobe basics. Things a great find too from Asda!
Sizes 8-24 George at Asda here
The Cape:
Capes have certain had a revival this year. While they wouldn’t be a priority in terms of overall practicality, they do offer a number of benefits- they are surprisingly warm, they work for any size, they add a stylish twist to plain outfits and finally, if you feel overwhelmed like you have nothing smart to wear - this will instantly solve that! Just put it with plain black jeans and a top and you are good to go, or simply copy the above look - a black dress, tight and boots.
